Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!
p2p alerts
Good morning,
We receive daily alerts from copyright-compliance.com
The alerts about the presence of files protected by copyright on
some dedicated servers at Ovh and accessible via p2p.
Example:
Title: The Sims
Infringement Source: BitTorrent
Infringement Timestamp: 14 Jul 2008 12:30:28 GMT
Infringement Last Documented: 31 Jul 2008 02:07:16 GMT
Infringer Username:
Infringing Filename: The Sims 2 Kitchen and Bath Interior Design Play now
Infringing Filesize: 444600897
Infringer IP Address: 91,121,172,100
Infringer DNS Name: ks362187.kimsufi.com
Infringing URL: http://torrent-downloads.to:5869/announce
The alert said that the file "the sims 2" is protected by copyright.
The file is hosted on the server and accessible at 91.121.172.100
free download via BitTorrent. The contract is not respected.
Until now, we would warn the customer, then pre-closed the server,
then the process would repeat itself while the contract remains broken or the server is
closed. No customer has changed behaviour on all alerts
between January and July (about 3-6 alerts per day). All servers
were finally closed.
Since 1 week, we switched to another method. Now on the farm
server is closed immediately as soon as the contract is broken. Sums
paid are not reimbursed. There was no discussion possible.
If a problem occurs, the legal option is available to the customer.
The result is the same except that our admins work less and the network
is less attractive for this type of illegal activity. Our network has no
vocation to become the wastebasket of the internet where you can find any
divx, exe or mp3 in a few minutes.
Finally, we continue with this method. In the long term, 1-3 months,
95% of this activity will go elswhere.
Regards,
Octave

yeah its funny when you look at the peerlist in utorrent and realize that most of the ip's are ovh...essentially passing data in a circle through the network...jacking each other off
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol yup, i noticed that the other day on a pack for sct. like 90% of the IP's were ovh and i bet most if not all of them will delete it once it slows down. im not worried though, im still seeding my balls off on an ovh and i doubt anything will happen.
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In peer guardian lot of the ''dangerous'' and blocked ips, were labeled as ''OVH SAS Anti-p2p''.
On the other hand,if they really stop this kind of service lot of people will leave.
I really doubt that a torrenter, seeded at a public...it is a bit of suspicious to me...
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sorry, but OVH would pretty much cease to exist if they disabled everyone who used their hardware for p2p.

This should be kept for posterity, carved on marble and in gold letters:

Hypocrites!

Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is ridiculous!

Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're all retarded. OVH will be 100 percent fine until you see a news story at 11:00 PM about their servers being raided and destroyed. What do you want them to say? "Yeah, we're real happy about half of our cash flow coming in from half of the illegal internet traffic." ?
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just because a lot of people in the BT community uses seedboxes at OVH does not mean that we keep them profitable. In fact, I'm sure most seedboxers are resulting in losses rather than profits and overall, I doubt that more than 1/5th of the servers are being used for p2p, but I would imagine much more than that is being used in terms of bandwith (which kills OVH and other hosts).
It's surely a good move for OVH. It sucks for BT users, but hey, bandwith is expensive and with all the freaking people maxing out their bandwith on the cheapest servers they offer means that the party was never going to last long.

Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guess it was time. I wonder really what kind of percentage uses ovh for other then legit purpose.

Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that will not last for a long time! after all money makes the world run.
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They will be bankrupt in no time. They must be nieve or retarded to think that they still can stay afloat after all there customers leave.
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lol. you realize the craze about OVH as a seedbox provider started around mid-2007? they've been in business since 1999. in the big picture, losing people who only use them for seedboxes is no big deal to their business plan.
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do not believe that they will block torrents.
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think it's their fault, after all, they just inspect your server if some higher authority complains. They got sick and tired of getting tons of complaints so decided to stop catering to torrenters. Even if all seedbox users got off OVH, they might make a loss, but all the spare bandwidth means they get lower expenses, and by the looks of it, probably 20% - 40% of their bandiwdth would be torrenting in my guess, but tons of it would be sent between their own servers.
As it's been said before, bandwidth is expensive, 1000 Euros for 24/7 100Mbps I think, and OVH will be making more profit if seedboxes didn't exist anyways. They still have TONS of legit customers...
Personally, I hope nothing happens since I do use an OVH server, I would just stay away from public trackers even more and use it abit less, no difference between a ratio of 8 and a ratio of 6 :P

Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You think they're going to turn this outrageous sort of business down? It's empty rhetoric to satisfy the anti-piracy goons.
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!
Some reseller already got all 25+ of his servers disabled for one torrent file found on one server. They lose money on seedboxes, they don't make it, so I think you'll see the end of the OVH fanboys glory days.
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!
mine working 100% until now
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!
I seeing now a lot of OVH seeding in several trackers.
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!
its all just talk .. dont think they gonna close all bt users .. maybe some .. to show their "anti-piracy" new policy LOL ))
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!
Maybe only users who use torrents on TorrentLeech (nearly public now).
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!
nothing has happened to me.

Can you substantiate your claims? Which reseller got shutdown and how do you know they lose money on seedboxes?

Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!
My box hasn't been touched yet. Hopefully it'll stay that way ;)

Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!
I like how people just live in denial.
Off course all this hosting seedboxes is going to end sooner than later. If you look at most private communities you see so many seedboxes. The 'authorities' are seeing this to so it's only a matter of time before lawsuits will come and most hosting companies will stop allowing members to use it for BT.
On a side note ... if you see how many bandwidth a seedbox-owner consumes I can hardly imagine they making a lot money from it, so i don't think they will be affected that badly from the rejection of BT-users.
-
Re: Bye Bye P2P IN OVH !!
i wonder if it pisses ovh off to see that their bandwidth just goes from one of their servers to another

It's cheaper for them, so I think they like it. Until they get some copyright threats, which I suppose they have been getting recently.
