Toshiba To Release 2nd Generation HD-DVD Players
by Shannon T. Nutt
Toshiba has announced the release of their second generation of HD-DVD players: the $500 HD-A2, and the $1000 HD-XA2. Both models will replace the current HD-A1 and HD-XA1, which will stop being produced when these two models are released.
The new models speed up load time, and feature support for Dolby TrueHD audio right out of the box. The more expensive HD-XA2 model also will support HDMI 1.3 as well as native 1080p output right out of the box.
The HD-A2 is expected to start shipping in October, while the HD-XA2 will be released in December.

Yes. What's your point?
Re: Toshiba To Release 2nd Generation HD-DVD Players
Well my point is what if one buys the cheaper version , no HDMI support so you cant really get HD?
Re: Toshiba To Release 2nd Generation HD-DVD Players
The cheaper one does have HDMI support. Just not HDMI 1.3.
For more info about the newer HDMI 1.3 check here: http://www.hdmi.org/press/pr/pr_20060622.asp
Re: Toshiba To Release 2nd Generation HD-DVD Players
The most common HDTV standards set by the ATSC are 720p, 1080i & P. 480p is generally not considered a HDTV resolution. HDMI was designed with 1080p in mind. Yes, you can get HDTV via DVI, which is the plug of early HDTV buyers.
