Re: Free/Trial Usenet Access?
Be careful with UseNeXT though, once you have registered they will always try to trick you into expensive subscriptions.
If you miss to cancel in time or if you exceed your free volume, you will have to pay for an entire year.

Re: Free/Trial Usenet Access?
Please remove UseNeXT. They have scammed a lot of people who wanted just get the "free" trial and ended up getting their credit card charged for a whole year. It's been very convenient for the company that when people try to cancel, their cancellation page on the site is somehow not working.
Just search the internet and you'll find many people reporting that they were ripped off by Usenext. I don't know of any other Usenet provider that even comes close to the number of complaints that usenext has got.
Anyone who is considering getting a "free" account at Usenext needs to carefully read the contract and understand the fine print. There's lots of it. It's got an awful lot of traps: one tiny slip, and you owe them for another whole year. And many people report that they were charged for a year upfront even if they don't make any mistakes.
Keep in mind that Usenext will immediately charge your credit card when you get your "free" account - up to a year's worth of service - and then (hopefully) refund you if and when you cancel. They're betting you won't, and they're not going to make it easy.
I would certainly never give UseNext my credit card number.

Yeah, I've heard the horror stories about them as well. I'll make sure Usenext gets its own category
Re: Free/Trial Usenet Access?
What does anyone think about making this topic a sticky?
Forté Agent Premium Newsgroups has always offered fairly generous free trial accounts.
They offer two types of free trials:
1. unlimited for 3 days
2. 10GB for 30 days
You have to pay up front, and then they give you a full refund if you cancel before going over the limit.

I remember that Giganews will charge you one dollar when you sign up for a free trial.

Re: Free/Trial Usenet Access?
sorry guys, but i'm quite a newbie when it comes to the newsgroups, so i'm just wondering if you can help me here. i checked out the Astinews link and signed up, alright, but how do i access this server (reader.astinews.de)...do i need to get a software like grabit? Please help!
Re: Free/Trial Usenet Access?
Many thanks, Cheeseman1208.
I use my ISP for usenet access, which is great but only 7 days retention. Sometimes, when I need longer retention times I use the free trials. I thought I knew (and had used) them all. Recently, I tried Usenetserver $3 for 3 days but they were abysmal. I couldn't get anything over 30 days.
So gave astinews.de a go and was able to get what I needed and for free. So big thumbs up and thanks again.
