External hard drive as mp3 player?

this may sound very stupid,

but is it possible to use an external hard drive as an mp3 player?

My enclosure has an audio port on it for headphones,
but is there a way to access music without a computer??
The hard drive has nothing on it yet so just wondering,
im going on a (Car) trip from Michigan to Missouri tomorrow morning,

and if i dont have any music i will not have fun.

sorry if this is stupid....i may know the answer to this already,
but asking never hurt right?

Perhaps you could inform us about the make/model of this enclosure with audio port?

Wouldn't the enclosure need to be plugged into an outlet? Does your car have an outlet?
