;) Go here..... Rippers & Encoders
Should not need no hashes, just find one there.I use dBpowerAMP Music Converter 9.0.,rip my CDs and family and freinds at 192 bitrate stereo.
CDEX is the best in my book. Rips directly from the CD to your hard drive keping it 100 percent digital. All other programs to the best of knowledge rip through your audio card, changing it from digital to analog and back to digital. For the clearest and best digital rips use CDEX.
ok thanks guys
:) I have heard CDEX is good do not get me wrong.I have compared I do not know how many rips to the original CD useing dBpowerAMP Music Converter(LAME 3.92) and I can not tell the difference at 192 bitrate stereo. But maybe I should stop this debate before somebody starts comparing 192 bitrate and 256 bitrate before long. :blink:Quote:

To each its own carbert, either of these 2 will do just fine, just please rip them at 160 bitrate or higher if you are going to share them.....prefer 192 but 160 is fine. :)

simply the best tool...
Yep, CDex gets my vote too. :)
BTW, can you choose the encoder you want to use, using dbPowerAMP or is it like MusicMatch Jukebox that only uses the Fraunhoffer encoder?
dbpoweramp uses lame encoder if thats what you mean.
As far as I know you can't chance this.
It only uses LAME 3.92 as far as I know. But I don't mind. :DQuote:

 Is CDex good at ripping CDs that are in bad shape(scratches and what not),sometimes have hard time with old CDs ripping that are scratched? From what I have always understood no Ripper/Encoder can help that.
I 've got a question to all people using dbpoweramp.
What should I choose as channels under compression settings?
Joint stereo, stereo, dual channel??
I use stereo.Quote:

Do you know what the difference is?
I always used joint stereo as yet. Is it smaller, worse quality..?
;) Haveing problems ripping some CDs right now.....will try to make this short and get back to ya. :blink:Quote:

Stereo VS Joint Stereo
Ok thanks.
If I got it right joint stereo is smaller than stereo because it uses some kind of additional compression?
No, as far as I know it would make no difference, however TechTV did test some of those disc fixers and they found some that actually worked. I mean they scratched some discs pretty bad and were able to use one of those disc fixers to make them readable. I would say check out Techtv.com and look for the "The Screensavers link, search for disc fixers, it may just be worthwhile for you in the long run. But I do have to say you need to try CDEX, TechTV found it to be the best ripper for music out there in their trials, so that is what I use, I did not use anything else ever so I am not the guy to ask what may be different, but it works beautifully for me.Quote:

I like a program that gives you choices, so CDex is still the best one for me! :D

:) I don't mind LAME.....can you use LAME with CDex? :)
How fast it it too.....might try it out?
my vote goes to CDEX aswell. it's an excellent ripper, i can really recomend it.
Yeah you can and if a new version of Lame comes out, you can just download the Lame .dll file and replace the old one in CDex's main folder. :)Quote:

The same goes to a bunch of other encoders. ;)

:) Just PMed ya.....cool...downloading now. :)
Actually.....don't know which one to download.
 Stable CDex or beta.....stable or beta.....hmmmmmmm.
Going with stable. :D
Check CDex forum, FC.
It looks like deja vu! :D
:) :D Ripping a CD with it now guys.....need to play with it awhile and will get back and let ya know what I think...really do not see a difference in the two.....I mean they use the same encoder. Will take picks of what encspot shows after I rip a CD with CDex and then the same one with PowerAmp.
;) Ok.....I have ripped a few songs with both rippers.....useing the same encoders(Lame 3.92) and I can not tell the difference between either one of the songs or the actual CD.That is what is important.....the quality,I still say to each his own...and from what I can tell both are good. ;)
:) Let me go to the bathroom and clear the wax out of my ears.....rip 2 whole CDs...burn them to audio and put them on the home stereo cranked up.I still do not think I will hear a difference but you never know. Now remember this is an older man who has been to a few shows in his day and my hearing might be getting bad.....maybe we should have a 15 or 16 year old do a test?
Whatever you do DON'T use the new Lame 3.93! :x
I've heard that it has some serious quality issues!
I've also heard some people saying that the Fraunhoffer encoder is better than Lame.
Is it?
hello DATA ...
concerning your question about mp3 encoding look here
it is a german website, but you can "see" the test results of encoding a wave with bladeEnc, lame and the reference frauenhofer encoder (12/1999).
the result said, that lame and frauenhofer are nearly the same, but with the aspects of price/licence/speed and quality, the lame encoder is favorite.

:beerchug:
If you're just ripping the audio from a CD for yourself, don't bother encoding it! Just rip it as a wav and you'll keep the original CD quality. The LAME encoder just squeezes it down to mp3 size with not much quality loss, but you do lose some nontheless. mp3 format is for filesharing because of its compression:quality ratio, but just copying a CD for yourself should not include further encoding.
sorry it may be a bit late but i use cdex....however if you want fast cd ripping while keeping it 100% original data go to this site and download there cd to wav/mp3 it comes with ad ware but u can uninstall these and it does not alter the program stability.....it is freeware as well very easy interface i ripped a whole 80 min cd to hard drive in 20 mins or so alot faster than cdex for me anyway.
the url is http://www.mthreedev.com/
enjoy fast ripping
thanks for all the help everyone :)
