The original Star Wars trilogy vs the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
What do you think?
I wouldnt choose between the two :D
lotr simply cuz it has better writing. but star wars still holds a place in my heart
the Lord of the Rings trilogy is better :)
Lord of the Rings is not a "trilogy".
Neither is Star Wars.
Please get it right:snooty:
LOTR is a trilogy, its three movies, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King.
When talking about Star Wars George Lucas released it as "the original trilogy" and then he released the three other movies on their own.
George Lucas himself sees its as the old trilogy(4, 5 and 6) and the new trilogy(1, 2 and 3).
If you actually farking read the LOTR books, in the fellowship of the ring it explicitly states that LOTR is NOT a trilogy.
It's a common misconception. Noob.:dabs:
How the fook could you not consider LOTR a trilogy?? Surely he's referring to the movie.
Just to clear up your obvious confusion:

The books wouldn't be considered a trilogy because LOTR is a sequel to The Hobbit.
However, as we're in Movieworld I'd say it's safe to assume that he meant the films which were in fact made as a trilogy. Any noob knows that. :dabs:Quote:
One of the most popular "trilogies" of fantasy books, The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien, is not a trilogy, though it is often referred to as such. Tolkien regarded it as a single work and divided it into a prologue, six books, and five appendices. Because of post-World War II paper shortages, it was originally published in three volumes. Sir Stanley Unwin, Tolkien's publisher, also split the novel into three parts to garner separate book reviews for each book of the 'trilogy', and thus (hopefully) spike book sales. It is still most commonly sold as three volumes, but has also been published in one-volume and seven-volume editions (as it is also split into six books and the appendices).
In answer to the thread starter, I liked the original Star Wars trilogy the best. Far more exciting, the heroes are less black and white than LOTR, the characters are infinitely more interesting and it's about 18 hours shorter in total.
I like Star Wars better, and no, it's not a trilogy.
:dabs: That's not even a good rod.
Oh and the original Star Wars Trilogy is better by leaps. It was ground breaking.
LOTR's trilogy was not. What made LOTR stand out was simply the number of CGI characters that were put on screen at once. It made the battles look epic (that's done a lot nowadays....300, Chronicles Of Narnia, etc).
Star Wars story & characters > LOTR's as well
Also Cheese is right. LOTR was too fucking long
"18 hours shorter".
star wars, lotr is still really good though
Lord of the Rings trilogy nomber 1 !!!

Personally, I like both.
There.
I like starwars better.
I think Lord of the Rings,I hate Star wars..
I'd bet that most that think LOTR is better are younger.
When you watch Star Wars as a kid, you want to be Luke Skywalker.
When you watch Star Wars as a teenager, you want to be Han Solo.
When you watch Star Wars as an adult, you want to be Darth Vader.
I don't know of any other films which appeal to all ages, like those :smilie4:
for me lotr is the best movie ever.
Shit damn and blast, can't choose...my head is going to explode, therefore it's a draw for me.
the Lord of the Rings trilogy
LOTR <3 I have watched it so many times and it's always so effective! But I have to say that Star Wars is also one of the legends in movie history.
For me its Star Wars they where so much ahead on time back then :)
why u guys compare LOTR with other movies
i am not saying star wars is suck but not like LOTR
my vote for LOTR
I would have to say that the original Star Wars is better than LOTR. By a long margin. It redefined a genre (almost created one), it was innovative. And the characters are much denser than the LOTR ones.
With that said, if Lucas didnt make the 2nd trilogy (or the 1st as you prefer), nothing much would have been lost.
" L.O.T.R. "
I never liked star wars either and lotr is one of my favs anyway.
so the decision here is not difficult for me:
LOTR
....and how old are all these LOTR lovers?:smilie4:
I think star wars is better
Star Wars is best
This discussion is blasphemy.
The two are not comparable.
as far as movies go star wars 4-6 beats LOTR but the LOTR books are better than any movie could be imo.
