Help setting up a simple tracker
Hi everyone!
Soon I'm going to need to spread a large file (3-4 GB) to a lot of people, and I thought bittorrent would be perfect, but setting up a complicated tracker script on our website seems a little overkill. Is there any other options? Are there any simple, stable and easy to install (on a Unix host) trackers out there?
Thanks in advance!
Re: Help setting up a simple tracker
Btw, the best thing would be a tracker plugin for vBulletin 3.5. Is there such a plugin?
Re: Help setting up a simple tracker
just create a torrent, and set the tracker to one of the following:
Code:
http://mongo56.org:3535/announce
http://bittorrent-support.com:2710/announce
http://tracker.prq.to/announce
then give the torrent to your people
oh and don't forget to seed it ;)
Re: Help setting up a simple tracker
Well, you know, this is not something I wanna spread to the whole bittorrent community, but thanks for the suggestion. :)

Re: Help setting up a simple tracker
you don't get it, as long as you don't upload the torrent to any dump sites the only people in the swarm will be the people with a copy of the torrent.
Re: Help setting up a simple tracker
Hmmm.. ok, now I get it. But that must be frowned upon by the people who run these trackers since we're stealing bandwidth. I guess it's negligeable. Thanks for the tips, and Filliz, I'll check out BlogTorrent.

No, they're free public trackers.

I just tried this, and all I get is "Connection error: timeout" from the trackers. I created a torrent in Azureus and put "http://tracker.prq.to/announce" as the announce url, but ... timeout. Maybe they don't allow people to use the tracker if the torrent isn't uploaded on their site?
