Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
are u mad @ the fact that blu-ray won in the movie media war over hd-dvd? pretty much EVERYONE has declared blu-ray the winner.
Toshiba Leaves HD
Netflix
Bestbuy
Wal-Mart
Blu-ray owns Japan!
to the ppl who bought hd-dvd what are ur plans? lol, i know busy's mad.

Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
I am not mad since I have been waiting for one to loose out to the other before I put money down towards either platform.
But what I would like to see is a DVD/HD-DVD+Blue ray player burner for pc's to come out once the prices go down as it would be of great use for a MCE pc build. There are dual stand alone players that already do this so I am hoping that this comes over to the pc side.
Since I think this would drive down the blank media cost and make it an affordable backup solution a lot quicker.

Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
Well, since I own a PS3 I don't mind at all :P
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
Glad I bought my PS3. :)
I'd hate to be one of the poor bastards who bought the HDDVD add-on for the Xbox 360.
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
Blu-Ray ftw. 1080p vs 720i/p...
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
I'm just glad someone finally won. Now hopefully the Blu-Ray players will get more mass produced and come down in price.

I did buy the 360 add-on and a stand-alone player. I was able to send the stand-alone back to Amazon and I still have a ton of free HD-DVDs for the 360 add-on.
I have never bought one HD-DVD movie.
Who knows? I might buy some of the movies once they hit rock-bottom.
HD PQ is still HD PQ.
Right now I have a ton of Blu-Rays as well. I either got those free or at rock-bottom prices.
I got 8 movies from Amazon for about $7.15 a piece and 6 from TRU for a about $20 (Disney movies: POTC and others).
If HD-DVD players hit rock-bottom, I could see getting a one since they are decent upconverting DVD players. I'd like to see one with a USB port though.
I don't see how anyone is still buying DVDs anymore.
Rip 'em and burn 'em but hell no, don't buy 'em.
DVDs are more dead to me than HD-DVDs (for purchases).

Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
I don't like either format. DVD still rules my home theater!

HD-DVD does 1080p as well.
I picked up a HD-DVD player a while back. I'm not pissed, it just gives me an excuse to throw more money at electronics, aka PS3. I'll just have to figure out how to rip the old HD-DVDs and put them on my media server so I don't have to keep the player clunking around.

Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
I'm glad that the format wars are over, and I think Blu ray was the better format anyway (10GB extra for single layer is no small thing). I do feel sorry for those who already bought HD-DVD players and got a big collection.
Now hopefully the prices will come down and BD-writers and discs become more common. I'm not too keen on watching movies and I'm looking forward to being able to backup 25GB of data on one disc.

The bad thing is that BD-writers will stay quite expensive. Not only that, they will be slow as fuck.
The lowest costing player is $300 ffs.

Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
but bluray writers have halved in price over the last 12 months, so won't be long before they're as cheap as dvd writers :whistling

...and how long will that be? Next year.
I think not.
I can get a decent DVD burner for $30. BR burners are about $300.
I've seen BD-R SL for $10 and BD-RE SL for $14.
I can get DVD+/-R SL for 20 cents.
Tell me how long again?
Hopefully write speed will eventually be able to go past 12x.
At the current 2x-6x speeds, burning BRs will absolutely suck. Hell, it will suck at 12x.
Needless to say, I wouldn't want a BR burner if it dropped to $200 if it's only going to at 2x.
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
im not mad cuz bluray truly does just have better quality
but i hate sony, so much, and it all just vindicates the ps3. it sucks. sorta.
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
i just think that toshiba gives up HD DVD a bit early.
$ony will be able to raise the price they want.
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
ya, blu-ray is better technology. the reason they won is they have outsourced blu-ray to everyone

I made the same mistake when DVD writers first came out.
BD recording speeds are really fast, 1X of Blu ray is 4.5 MB/s , so 6x is quite fast, in comparison 1X of DVD recording is 1.32 MB/s.

Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?

Good point. I guess it would have to be since a movie on BR is much bigger.
I'm not getting even a 3rd gen BD writer. I'll wait till it gets to at least 8x before I think about it.

i 2nd that motion.

Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray, they are all stupid because they can get scratched too easily. I think that some sort of Flash-Ram device should have replaced DVDs instead of more optical media.
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
blu-rays are more scratch resistant than dvds...
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
Good that its finally over. BR is better format technically than HD DVD.

....unless it goes dirt cheap of course.....
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
That really is a surprise, although I don't have a preference...
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
I like either format but the price is too much for me now so DVD still rules in my home.
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
seems paramount ventured back to the BD.
Paramount taking BD back!.
yep, more and more blu-ray supporters! :)?
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
I really dont care...my external is ready to backup!!!LOL!!!

Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?

Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
I don't care at the moment, I don't want spend my money of this.
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?

Yeah now the add-on players are $50.
Oh well my loss. I'll still enjoy the HD films I have and maybe get more when they drop in price.
Hey I still have a working LD player.

Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
i could care less about which format did win.
the important thing is that the content find its way to my bittorrent communities.

It's the same content that's on DVDs.:ermm:

Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
actually. i was very happy
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
I am a little pissed off that BluRay won. I hate Sony and everything Sony related. Plus HD-DVD seemed to be the superior format. Oh well, it had to end sometime.
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
If u compared the #s, u can easily guess that blu ray is better but the surprise is it's a clear quick victory
-
Re: Are you mad that Blu-ray won?
No , i dont mad for that .. its good to know finally.
