Bush is an ass and this comes from an American.
I hope someone really brings this old news to the forefront in the election.

Un inspectors you mean. Which were pulled out as the US was about to bomb Baghdad. The reason given for the bombing was that Iraq was obstructing the inspectors, however Iraq had just discovered US spies among the inspectors and asked for those individuals to be removed.Quote:
There's been invasion plans since the end of the gulf war and more invasion plans when the US inspectors left around 1998, it's public record .
For the record, the US has had plans drawn up to invade Iraq as early as 1958 or so.

It was all to do with the overthrow of the King, whose body was dragged through the streets of Baghdad (if my memory serves me well). There was real concern that the Russians would get their people in. If you recall there used to be a bit of a thing between you guys and the Russians. :D
Saddam and the Ba'athists were seen as less troublesome than the crowd that followed the King, who were overthrown in the 60s, with, I have read, CIA assistance  (again I believe bodies were dragged through the streets of Baghdad - a form of public address system it would seem).
Ironicaly, Saddam will probably be the first deposed Iraqi leader not to be dragged through the streets (although I may be speaking too soon).
Oh what tangled webs we weave.
