i've had this problem that started recently where i'll add things to my startup folder, they'll stay there for a day or 2, and they get deleted.

but not everything in the startup folder, just the newer stuff.

i've scanned for ad/spyware with spybot, adaware, and microsoft antispyware.

    any ideas?
    thanks,
    david

edit: the items i'm talking about specifically (i haven't tried any others) are the Gmail Notifier (the google one) and object desktop.

Programs like Ad-Watch (which comes with Ad-Aware) will block registry changes (which take place when you add a program to your startup folder) if you do not allow them in the Ad-Watch program. Do you have any adware blocking program running or scanning every few days that will automatically restore your registry? This might be causing your problem, but without more info about the software you are running, it is anyone's guess what's going on with your computer.
