Have a new dvd writer what codecs do i need to download

Hi there i burned one movie fine with oem suite nero then had a x-vid DVD-rip and it wont copy the audio. I assume that this is due to codecs. Also the file is file to open with video lan however i try in nero 6 ultra (a new download) and its giving me no real download instruction like in my OEM suite. Am i right is this codecs that is the problem, i have just started my system from scratch so havent got the newest ones only ones off nero 6 download...?

you are trying to convert an xvid which is based on mpeg4 specification to a dvd which is based on mpeg2, i don't know if nero will do this but it might, did the first one you did require a lengthy encoding process in nero or did it burn straight to disk?

TOOK AGES AT LEAST 3 AND A HALF HOURS. I just assumed i could put anything onto dvd but the same could not be said for cd-r?
