Thread: SATA help needed

  1. #1
I just got my 2 250GB SATA hds.

I only got one cable so only one is hooked up atm. Both are connected to the psu though.

The bios doesnt recognize them on boot up. Either does windows. I installed all the drivers right. Just cant figure this out.

EDIT: My motherboard is a Foxconn 600A01-6LRS and the hds I got are these Maxtors.

You must have to enable sata in BIOS...look in "integrated peripherals" maybe.

You may have to go into raid configuration and configure them as JBOD.

There's an article about it here.

Edit: steps 4 & 5 of option 1 of that article appear to be the relevant areas.

    SATA is enabled.

Cant create RAID when its not picking up the hd.

    OK, so SATA is enabled.
Is "SATA mode" set to "IDE"?

I'm looking at page 49 of your user's manual.

    This is not good.
If you can't get BIOS to see the drive then Windows doesn't have a prayer.

Under your boot priority does "SCSI" appear?
Maybe your chipset considers the SATA drive as a SCSI device.

Dont think so... let me take a look though.

EDIT: Dont see SCSI anywhere. Only in device manager, but there is a SATA controller there as well.

Where are you looking to see if the drive is detected?

Tell us for both Windows and the BIOS.

    What happens if you check in: Start>Control Panel>Administative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Management ?

I was talking about the boot order in BIOS, not Windows.
