    Cool

I recently purchased a 300gb hardrive and placed it in a USB 2.0 case. I use it to work on my video projects at both Home and on Campus. The only thing I have to do it copy my current project onto the computer's internal hardrive to give it faster access. That's not a problem since both places have large internal hardrives.

I do. Except I also have a network connecter along with USB so I can plug it into my router so all three of my comps can access it.

Which one? Were you intending to post a link?

The speed can be affected by the connection bandwidth. So 10,000 RPM would be a waste.

    i have 2. they're lifesavers

and yea, vb is right. usb 2.0 transfers @ max 480mb/s, and most of the time it doesn't even reach that speed. so 10000 rpm hdd would be pretty useless, and it'll make the enclosure vibrate like crazy

    i have a few a 200 and a 300 both 7200rpm work great
I did notice that either maxtor or WD are making a raid 0 external drive which would be interesting to see what the performance specs look like
Customer: "I want to download the Internet. Do I need a bigger hard disk?"

That would probaly be wasted like abu said.

Is the 480mbps the max that each port can do or the max of the USB controller?

Either way, it would be neat to see it plug into 2 USB ports (possibly seperate usb cards) to get twice the bandwith...

480mb/s is max each port can do. but in most cases, it doesn't reach 480mb/s. my new camera boasts accelerated usb 2.0 transfer as one of it's features. i must say, copying 30 mb of photos from it is considerable faster than copying 30 mb of stuff from my external hdds.
