Thread: What bitrate are those songs in winamp XM

    I see like 16000 and i dont know how that is in mp3 format.

    Could i record those and make liek 320 mp3 rips.

    Whats winamp XM? And yea if you burned it and re-ripped you could make it w/e you want like 320. (VBR FTW)

    Its XM radio but on winamp.

    do u have winamp. Go to media libraby and scroll down to aol radio with xm.

    Then scroll down to xp satellite radio. Its great. No commercials. There are only about 22 and the rest are normal stations.

    it's 16kbs, so recording them and making them 320kbs would be a waste of space

    why. I only have mp3 files and dont deal with like wma or whatever they are. What is that equivelent to in mp3.

    And isnt XM supposto be like cd quality

    Because the bitrate for those XM radios streams are 16kbps. (I don't even know if MP3 could go that low). You're not going to get quality that doesn't exist by ripping the streams and encoding to 320kbps. 320kbps is a waste for a 16kbps stream.

    Just pick some nice number like 128kbps.

    No, not really. Well, I suppose XM Radio stations could use higher bitrates. High enough to sound like CD quality. But the stuff you're listening to in Winamp aren't like what you listen to in the car when it's coming from a satellite. AOL and XM must have teamed up to stream their radio stations on the internet. But that doesn't mean it's going to sound as good.
