Thread: Getting a computer built...

  1. #1
What does everyone think of these specs:

    CPU INTEL P4 630 3.0GHZ LGA775 2M RETAIL.......209.99
    MB ASUS P5VD1-X PT880ULTRA S775 PCI-E..........79.99
    DDR 1G PC3200/400 BUFFALO MS4003-1GB OEM.......99.99
    HDD SATA WD 250G 7200RPM 8M WD2500JD OEM.......119.99
    VIDEO ASUS N6600 256MB AGP 8X TVO/DVI..........189.00
    CASE ATX 6161 420W USB.........................40.00

    Prices in CAD.

Am I missing anything (Note: I'm reusing some optical and floppy drives)?

And should I go with AMD instead?
Ignore my ignorance, but how does a CPU that is stated to run at 2.0Ghz (e.g. AMD ATHLON 64 3200+ 2.0G S939) compare with a true 3.0Ghz CPU?

I'd go for the ahtlon 64 instead of the intel.
The AMDs do more work per cycle than the Intels so they run at slower speeds and run cooler.

I do not think that you have a moniter listed there, that might be something you want to look into if you don't have one at your house.

Made a small revision regarding the MB:

    CPU INTEL P4 630 3.0GHZ LGA775 2M RETAIL.......209.99
    MB ASROCK 775V88 S775 VPT880 SATA/A/LAN........89.99
    DDR 1G PC3200/400 BUFFALO MS4003-1GB OEM.......99.99
    HDD SATA WD 250G 7200RPM 8M WD2500JD OEM.......119.99
    VIDEO ASUS N6600 256MB AGP 8X TVO/DVI..........189.00
    CASE ATX 6161 420W USB.........................40.00

    Any suggestions?

Does anyone else think I should go with AMD instead?

And is the N6600 a good choice for a video card? I plan on doing some gaming, but I don't want super high framerates with super high quality settings on a super high resolution.
