Thread: Windows Xp Question Please Read

  1. #1
My Hp Computer Came with a Dvd Backup Disk With Windows Xp on it, But when I install that Xp on to the computer it contains a bunch of useless crap and probably stuff hidden everywhere that just completly slows the computer down. I had Copy of Windows Xp that I downloaded but the cdkey wasn't real (can't get updates etc) It was extremly fast though because there wasn't anything useless on it. What im asking is, is there something out there to have my computer installed with a fresh XP without using one of those cheezy programs where I have to uninstall all the programs that I see and think doesn't go with the computer.

Make sure you have all your drivers. Kill Disk, format & install XP VLK. I'm sure it's in verifieds.

There is a program that will let you explore the contents of your xp cd, then delete/add things you want, and then it makes an ISO file you can burn onto a new DVD.

Does not "nLite" do something along those lines?

At any rate, and I do not know if this would work personally, however why not obtain a clean retail (non OEM) version of XP Home (which is likely what your HP system came pre-installed with) and utilize the OEM key that is imprinted upon your tower. Usually a little Microsoft sticker with the 25 character keycode.

I think Dell's XP home are proprietary & the keys as well. So I'd think the key wouldn't work on any ordinary XP home.

Ok this is what I did and I found it to be the best! I did do that Nlite thing. Pretty cool It took my OEM Windows XP cd and was able to strip it to almost completly nothing. The Cd was around 3000mb with the program Nlite ended up being 170mb. Everything runs almost 10x better and smoother then just a clean reformat with the OEM Win Xp disk. My only problem is, I can't get windows XP theme to work it stays at the Classic view. I even tried using Windows Blinds and still doesn't work.

I've used nLite as well. It's great. The problem is when you made your selections you limited yourself to classic view. Go back & make another install disk & watch the options more carefully.
