Thread: pc to tv without svideo

  1. #1
    Hello,
i just bought a new laptop and have movies on it and want to know if it is possible to be able to play my movies on my laptop to my tv. One of my friends connects a svideo to svideo cable from his laptop to his tv. I dont have a s-video output on my laptop. Is there any way possible i can still watch the movies on my laptop through my tv. And if so can someone please explain in good detail the steps to do so. thankx

Your laptop doesn't have an S-video or Composite video output.
    (per the Dell website...http://www1.us.dell.com/content/prod...iewstab#tabtop)

You will need a VGA to Component video adapter.

I did a quick Google search and found this...http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/kd-vtca2.htm

I'm sure there are others available.

You need an adapter something like this:

Then you need to find a way to connect the audio as well. Your laptop has headphone jack that can be used for that.

ok i have a vga port on my laptop. So all i need to do is get that vga cable in that picture and connect the other end of the cable which in the picture has a svideo(black) and then that other connector(yellow). And then a y audio cable(ministereo plug to rca)?

No. You wouldn't use the yellow connector at all. Only the S-Video OUT connects to the TV S-Video IN for the video signal.

The audio would be done with another cable from the headphone/speakers out on the laptop to the audio input at the TV.

What is that yellow adapter in this picture for? and when i plug these two to my tv. The yellow one goes into the yellow port of the tv and then of course the s video connector goes in the s video port on the tv?
