I swear I remember my teacher making one out of paper and a tea candle when I was in elementary school. Anyone know?

Tried that, just set the bag on fire..

Just tried with a lighter and crisp packet....result; no hot air balloon and one burnt thumb

Full a balloon with lighter gas,
cover balloon with paper mache, allow to dry.
paint it with ya favorite hot air balloon colours ~ let dry

cut a small hole at the botton, pop the balloon inside, and ignite the gas

should work ok

I'd agree, except for the lighter gas thing (WELL DANGEROUS!!)

Papier mache is the way to go.

Just blow up a balloon, cover in papier mache from tissue paper, then pop the balloon, and cut a hole in the bottom.

Use some thin wire to fashion a cradle in which you can support a tea-light at the bottom, under the hole.

Attach the two, light the candle, and hey presto, a hot air balloon. If it's light enough, the heat from the tea-light should be enough for it to fly...?
