New worm targets OS X

Apple and outside analysts said the program, referred to as Leap-A, is not a "virus" per se. Rather, it "requires a user to download the application and execute the resulting file," Apple said in a statement to CNET News.com. The company provided no further comment on the nature of the program.

Too bad you have to be running iChat to actually spread this or know someone that uses iChat. Unless you have an iSight or other webcam, you'll probably be using AdiumX anyways. AdiumX is the defacto instant messaging client on OS X. So, being that the worm is already in low circulation, and you have to use iChat to spread it or have a pall that uses it, the possibility of recieving this is almost nill. And even then if you are stupid enough to run this, you have to supply your password which should be an obvious clue.

This is pretty much the extent of how viruses can work on OS X. You are stupid and download and open an unknown file. It trashes your applications or home directory. This is pretty much it. Almost anyone with experience in programming could make this same virus in applescript. To totally trash the system beyond deleted your personal files requires you to type in your password when running the program.

Well I guess its like any security problem , its in how fast its corrected .

Apple Computer on Wednesday released a security update for Mac OS X that fixes 20 vulnerabilities, including a high-profile Web browser and Mail flaw disclosed last week.
