I've been thinking about DLing a game (specifically Sim City 4, also Rush Hour), and with all the heavy claims in the tagging of what turns up during a search, in addition to zip, exe, cracks, keys, no CD claims, I see these tremendous differences in file sizes.

I use FrostWire, and I've developed my own methodologies for DLing music, but when it comes to games, I'm lost.

I certainly want to avoid viruses, etc.

Any ideas to winnow down the choices?

what you are looking for in most cases is some sort of image file (iso, bin, img,) something of that nature. I have never seen a cd image file under 500mb. if it says cd 1 or cd 1of3, or something of that nature, make sure you have all the image files. once you have all the cds, you need a virtual image drive such as damon tools, poweriso or alcohol 120% to mount the cd images and install. then you need a serial or keygen in order to get the game installed. after it is installed, you can probably play just by having the image mounted to the virtual drive. if that isn't conveniant, download a crack, which is basicly the EXE for the game except it doesn't check to see if the cd is in the drive. delete the exe in the game folder, or rename it to original or something, then copy the crack into the folder and click the crack to start the game.

the easiest way to get (new) games is with (private) bittorrent sites. they always mention the release and post the NFO.

Torrents definitely the way to go, mate.

Tho' I believe there's an active Sim City 4 on alt.binaries.cd.image just now if you are au fait with Newsgroups. If you aren't then there's a very good sticky in Newsgroups here. Feck I understood it.

    I'll look soonest.

Haven't any experience with newsgroups, and Bittorrent was a mystery to me when I tried it the one time.

That was a couple of installs ago.
