I usually did voluntary work so I never felt too bad about it. I was better off on the dole than I am as a student, which is a bit sad really.

I once paid my rent each week with my dole payment because my landlord did not accept housing benefit people so I lied and said I had a job (I was really at college). About six months later I realised I could make the claim without his knowledge and backdate it. £1,500 seems like you've won the lottery when you've been living on £5 a week for food.I was better off in prison than on the dole

Thankfully I haven't had to go through any of that losing my job this time, my new one starts the day after my notice from the old one expires so its like I have had a paid month off
