THE GRAPHICS CHIP wars are about to hot up some more. According to DigiTimes, the Nvidia NV35 is going to launch at E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles next month.
E3 starts on 14 May so that gives only three weeks to wait. If the report is accurate. But then, if the report is accurate, the NV35 is only a slightly tweaked NV30. And you know that's not true if you read the INQUIRER regularly.

Before the graphics speed demons out there start slavering too much, remember that a launch is not the same as the product becoming available to the public. It's a fair guess that the report is right about the timing even if it manages to be completely off on most of the rest of it. E3 is the perfect time for a launch.

Many people claim to have seen the NV35 up and running already. It's certain that Nvidia has pulled out all of the stops to get NV35 to market so that it can reclaim the performance crown from ATI. Let's just hope that the QA process survives all this rushing to market. µ

    New Geforce Card news

The Geforce FX 6800 Ultra is the answer to all your prayers, with the NV35 shipping in volume in June all Nvidia partners hope, the most optimistic even saying in late May. µ

and another.... Problems with 5800, and naming of the 6800?

The nVidia GeForce FX 5800 Ultra performed absolutely crap in the benchmark tests, losing out to the Sapphire ATi Radeon 9800 Pro depsite ATi's lack of DirectX 9 support.

So, I suppose they've had another shot at it eh ?

apparently so. the went with ddr1, not 2, which the 5800 fx used, which is super rare still to this day, and costly, and it ran alot hotter, hence the hugs ass cooler..

but the nv35, or 6800 rumored name, uses ddr1, at higher speeds then normally seen, supposedly wont need such massive cooling, and will 256bit memory, like the high end ati cards... supposedly, this card will be top notch... but we will see.. nvidia is desperate, as they havent had the performance crown two cycles in a row... which ati has, with the 9700, and 9800... so they want back on top, at all costs...

thats why the 5800 is pretty rare too, as in essence, they stopped production, and resources on it, to focus on the next one, the 6800.

Hopefully that'll mean that it's not so big that it'll cover up your PCI slot below it...
