Adding Text to a video

Hi

I am looking for a simple video editing tool that I can use to add some text to a video. Basically, I want to display a message to the users, before the video begins. I believe this can be done using Windows Media Maker. However, I found it too cumbersome to use.

Is there any other simple tool to use?

I also avoid Movie Maker,
and not cus Ithink its complicated (it isn't), but because it takes too long
and also, I don think it handles avi encoding; or does it?
