Thread: Why do people buy collector's editions?

I don't get it. The "extra" stuff is never worth the higher price.....

The only 'collectors' game i bought (which just had an extra DVD anyway with crap on) is Brothers in Arms, and the extra DVD was free because i preordered it anyway, so it was all good.

But i agree that collectors editions usually are absolutely pointless. Call of Duty 2 cost me around £30 at launch, whereas the collectors edition would've cost i think £50. £20 for a shitty DVD with clips that are probably like 3mins long and other pointless stuff? Ummm....no thanks. May as well get another game for that

Buy the collector's edition and download the game, thus keeping your box and CD in perfect condition. As Monkee points out Warcraft collector's editions go for a good price, the same is true of other games.

So, in conclusion, I certainly wouldn't buy a collector's edition for the extra content but I would be tempted if I thought I could earn a bit of money down the line. Pointless? No.

THe only collectors edition game i bought was halo 2. I thought it was worth it at the time and still dont mind making that decision as the case is kickass. Its mostly for bragging rights really.
