Hot-linking an image is what you're doing with your sig. Directly linking an image from one site to a different site.

Some sites regard it as stealing their bandwidth, meh.

Yeah it does. I can't remember what site but it had a popular picture and the guys running it noticed significant "traffic" only to find it was a ton of hotlinking.
