so, real gameplay experience benches have surfaced showing the intel core 2 extreme x6800, intel core 2 duo e6700 & amd fx-62's in action. in a nutshell, not much difference between the 3 cpus, but intel's high end extreme did reign champion.

    Price:
    Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 = $1k+
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 = $550
    AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 = $1k+

all 3 cpus performed equally in all benches performed w/maybe a 3 fps difference. comparing those prices imo the intel core duo e6700 is the best cpu to date!

If the "secret weapon" is lack of performance then you're probably right.

    ROFL.

I think AMD have been caught on the hop, though i do hope they're at least developing something that might be a competitor.

Thing is, what's with Intel's new naming structure? E6600? X6800?

Could these be performance ratings? What happened to the "speed is everything" philosophy? It's beginning to look like Intel has finally decided to look at it's architecture rather than just go for pure speed, and about time too.

Still, AMD haven't started production on the 65nm fab yet. I suspect they'll produce some outstanding results when that comes on stream.

Intels hasnt been with the "speed is everything" philosophy for a while...Look at the mobile chips. And they started naming there chips different with the
6xx series (which I wish they didnt cuz that was confusing) lol

Intels got the game for now at least....props to them!
