Thread: Offline virus scanning?

  1. #1
    I can not reinstall my xppro after it crashed(safe mode does not work) for no reason, Maybe it has something to do with the via raid controler(i hava s-ata disk from maxtor) or maybe it is a virus. So my question is if you know of a good antivirus that can scan offline with the latest definitions. Maybe even with a bootable cd, but any suggestion will be greatly appriciated.
    So peace to you all
    thanx

    Here is something posted by nonnspin that I used once to get safe mode back.

    >> open/edit msdos.sys in notepad | >> (hidden/read only on Default!)

    >> open a root DosBox > type > attrib -r -h -s msdos.sys

    >> now type > edit msdos.sys

    Basically you've got TWO options here:

    1. add:
    BootSafe=Boolean
    Default: 0
    Purpose: A setting of 1 forces your computer to boot in Safe mode.

    means: If you put
    BootSafe=1

    your machine boots into SafeMode every time until you remove it

    2. add:
    BootKeys=Boolean
    Default: 1
    Purpose: A setting of 1 enables the use of the function key boot options
    (that is, F4, F5, F6, F8, and CTRL).
    A setting of 0 disables the use of these function keys during the boot process

    ergo > adding >
    BootKeys=1

    (re-)enables your precious BootKeys

    [FONT=Impact]
    >> save > reapply the attributes > attrib +r +s +h msdos.sys

    ... should work

    Why don't you overwrite the xp or install another one and delete the one you using later ? You could try to travel into past, before the crash
    You could check in the services to boot into safe mode.
