I'm looking for a reliable remote access program

A new position in my job has me on the road a lot more these days. I've bought myself a laptop but I would like to stay connected to my home based PC that I use for downloading and uploading. I check torrents on a daily basis as well as change download and upload positions of torrents, adjust speeds, stop and start torrents... I like having full control of what is happening.

So, what I need is a program that not only gets me into my home based PC's folders and files but something that will also allow me to manipulate uTorrent as well as a few other programs on the home PC. I want something that will make me feel like I'm sitting at home right in front of the PC. Wishful thinking on my part? If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them!
