Thread: One of my USB ports is dead.

    There is nothing stuck inside it,it no longer responds. If i plug in my mouse, it lights up only when i put it in the begining.

    It is definetly not software related since the other USB port works.

    What to do?

    not use it?
    is it the motherboards usb's or is it front usb ports, if its front...you can replace them...

    One of mine on the secondary PC does the same. Perhaps there's a USB flu/virus/bug type thing going around er something?

    If it is a front USB port then a wire could have come undone inside the pc...
    But I think you have a laptop don't you, so I imagine it would be hard to fix.

    USB ports are supposed to be designed to put up with thousands of insertions.

    However (as usual), that's a lie, the contacts get bent back or the plastic insert breaks off (or both).

    As Global suggests, see if you can find a replacement.

    im not sure if we are talking about a desktop or laptop, but laptop usb would be harder to replace, obviously

    my front panel USB ports occasionally stop working. i get the device has malfunctioned error. the fix is always either unplugging the PC for an hour or the USB device.
