it all depends on what games you are looking to play, what graphics levels you want to run, how big of a screen you want, how much you are willing to have weigh, how much harddrive space you are looking for, ect.
Plan for the worst, hope for the best

    $700 laptop gaming rig?

    NO WAI!

You'd have to spend at least $1500 CAD for a decent gaming laptop.

What's wrong with Dells? They fixed the battery problem and the problem was clearly Sony's fault. Besides, from what I looked at; Alienware is way overpriced, HP and gateway don't have 7900GS for their laptops and Dell seemed to have the best price with discount.

see now a crappy x600 with 128vram costs $1070, so if you want something decent to run ut2k7 or other such games you need a at the very least a x1600 or above, with 1-2gb ram and >120gb harddrive, which is going to cost around $1500 if you can find a good deal.
