Virtualdub is good. Just load up the video file, select Audio --> Full Processing Mode, then File --> Save WAV.
I've done it for a few stand up comedy videos I have to listen to in the car.

hi there !
Cool edit Pro 2.0 and 2.1 are also brilliant.
2.1 now has AC3 encoder for surround sound.
i have them both on K++

does cooledit rip audio from .wmv files
this end up being what i need
virtualdub won't operate on wmv so it can't help
i already run alot of audio apps and just found that i already have the capability
so hush my mouth
