Those aren't even in the same ballpark of the quality I'm looking for.

When you make an icon from an existing image, the quality has got to be perfect or there is too much image destruction.

Making an icon the size of the original image or something, then?
If not, you are a strange, strange person if you think that something like this won't do for a decent icon.
