Thread: A few questions re Twin Monitors

  1. #1
    Hi Guys

I am thinking of upgrading one of my PC's.

I use it for surfing, d/loading, MS Office, and Photoshop, watching video clips but no games.

Can you see any benefits in my having a twin monitor set up ?

If so what do I need to be able to do this - a special graphics card ? Any special software ? Are they hard to set up ?

Also with monitors could I have say an 19" LCD and a 15" one to keep the cost down or would they really need to be both the same ?

I have heard that seom of the new wide monotrs can be used for twin screen set ups is this true - they sound too small to be useful.

    Kind Regards

I have run twin monitors but found it to be more of a novelty than a necessity (at least for me).

Using a nVidia card, setup was extremely easy.
I had two different sized monitors and found it to be distracting and aesthetically unpleasing.

I can see how specialized applications/usage might benefit from a dual display but I'd take one large screen over two smaller ones (especially if they are mismatched) anyday.

I agree with clocker for the most part - I have been running 2 LCD screens for about 3 years. One being a 19" Dell 1901FP LCD and the other a 18" Dell 1901FP LCD, so they are almost the exact same monitor with the one exception being the one inch diagonal size difference.

As to your question about the possibilities of all different sizes, you can use whatever you want, but just know that it will look like crap. You can even use a laptop as a secondary monitor, but why one would want to, I have no idea.

I have found that I am now spoiled and could never go back to just one monitor. I would be lost. It's great for surfing and just about anything, but it truly shines when you're doing any imaging work or web building. For example, if I'm working on a website, it's nice to be able to have the web page open on one monitor and view the code format in DW on another. I can look back and forth as I work or refresh the screen with changes, etc.

In my opinion, the benefits are endless. After all, two is better than one, right?

I think a twin monitor setup is only a good thing when using a proffessional application like CAD so that you have one monitor to work on and the other monitor for the toolbars.

to set one up im guessing ur graphics has a VGA port and DVI port if so then vga to dvi monitor cable and dvi to dvi monitor cable plug one it one and the other into the other windows will do the rest......but u can go into the display setting to mess about with things in there and u can get specialist software but it isnt needed

    Thanks guys

Your replies have been very helpful.

But lately I have been visiting computer stores and I have seen a few of these wide screen monitors eg 20" and 22" - boy are they sexy !

I'll start another thread for this !
