Not surprising, AMD has to drop prices to stay competative in the low-mainstream market.

Downgrade all their CPUs by at least one notch, so the FX-55 would be a mainstream CPU and the 4400+ would be low-end.

What does that make my 64 4000+.

AMD has to keep up. Who needs quad core cpus right now? I bet Intel is doing that just to beat AMD more.

ts dual-core brother - the E6600 - costs $316 at the same clock speed and it will drop to $224 in the second quarter 2007. It's up to you whether you want to wait or get one now.
Damn I bought mine for around $315-$320. I wouldn't have waited for a price drop anyways.

s939Land is becoming quite a playground.
    I'm currently negotiating for a 4 month old FX-57 for a mere $150.
I may not get it but sooner or later another will pop up.

Makes waiting for all the new CPU/chipsets to shake out (no way I'm getting screwed again like my early foray into s754) much more entertaining.

    Hey guys,

This has been going on for years since AMD first came out in the 1980's. Intel and AMD are always bringing out new more powerful chips and moving the range down a notch as you say. It will never end. The trick is to buy when you can or need to.

I always buy AMD because until they came out CPU's were far more expensive as Intel could (and did) charge what they liked.
