Newbie with a problem

Hi there everyone,
I'm new to this site - it looks good. I am in need of help please. I am in the process of re-installing xp pro. (from a recovery disc) on my other computer (a laptop). I am partway thro. installing windows and I have an error message as detailed below. What should I do next?????? Any ideas.

Error:
Installation Failed: D:\I386\asms. Error Message : The parameter is incorrect.

Fatal Error:
One of the componenets that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

Any suggestions which may point me in the right direction will make me smile again.........

If the recovery disk doesn't belong to the computer you're reinstalling XP pro on. Then you are S.O.L.

clean the cd. this could be the problem.
