was it live action, Not a cartoon? or it was a mixture of both, i was born in 74 so i can only just about remember those crazy dog things.

The arabian nights cartoon was damn good as well, (A segment of The Banana Splits Adventure Hour)
For me The Banana Splits was excellent viewing even to this day
