I got GTA 1 for a bit of nostalgic fun, but of course there's no way to save without first finishing a level...However, I remember playing it like 6 years ago and finding a crack which did allow me to save midgame...Does anyone know where I can find that agian?

I haven't played the game for a while but I believe you can save at the place you start, it costs you something like $50,000 though. I don't know anything about a crack to quicksave though.

I remember just going into menu and selecting Save... Never had to go anywhere ingame to save.

Play it on a Playstation emulator and you'll be able to quicksave the game state with the emulator.
