Usenetserver has just added 256 Bit SSL access to their services at no extra cost to people. I think this is awesome because they have SSL like Giganews now, but they don't charge $5.00 extra a month for it. Great job UNS can't wait to see what's next.

Here is the front page story on Slyck:

Awesome, thanks for the heads-up Looks like Giganews finally has competition. I read on slyck that Usenetserver is going to raise their retention to 100-120 day soon too.

lol this is great. Its a war between giganews and uns! If this continues we will have some damn good newsgroups service!

Edit: Been comparing the retention of uns and giganews. Giganews is alot better. Look at the retention for alt.binaries.boneless.

The retention in some groups was effected by a bug in the frontend server code. That bug was fixed this week, and retention in all groups will grow to the same level (75 days now, and much larger when phase 3 is done).

Oh ok thanks for info . I can't wait to see what giganews will do when you start phase three of the retention increase

If Giganews does raise their retention to match or beat other providers like UNS and newshosting, you can count on them raising their prices too. Anyone ever notice that when they add new features they increase prices? (example:charging for SSL)

lol! I bet the guys over at Giganews have to feel like retards now, they charge $5 extra a month if you want to use SSL...a shout out to usenetserver for not being money grubbing bastards

I saw on digg that UNS has a autounrar feature on the website, is that true? and how would that work exactly?

Through Usenetserver's web interface you can search for bins, select the files you want to download, then you can tell it to par check and unrar for you also. Everything is processed server side and you get sent the actual file eg. dvd iso.
Pretty cool feature especially for users just getting into the usenet world.

digitrifecta, can you explain how you go about extracting before downloading? I found Usenetserver's web interface search page and I can compile the selected files into an NZB but when I download the NZB and open it with NewsLeecher it just puts the files in my Queue and starts downloading them.
