Thanks zedxax i'll look into other folders to see if there is any other trace of trend micro.I know it is in all programes but havethe same problem when trying to delete it. Is itpossible that it could be in system 32?

But as far as i can teel it is only the icon that is causing the problem, and as i said before i was afraid that i would lose all my programes in my external hdd.

And you shouldn't. He didn't say the icon was that of a hard drive.

That's a pretty important piece of information don't you think, Tony?

Zed, I think you're going a bit over the top trying to get rid of an icon that I assume isn't even there if the external hdd isn't plugged in.

If the external hdd is plugged in, there will be an icon for it. I don't believe that there is any way to have it simply not show.

Can you give us a screenshot of this icon, and where it is, please?

Skizo the issue is not the icon any longer, it is that he cannot install a new antivirus of his liking cause of a fkd unistall of Trend blocking it.
The TrendMicro icon on his extrnl hd will disappear as soon as he removes Trend properly..
(that's the "over the top part" )

Also check you processes in the task manager to see if you have any "Trend" process.
    Kill them
Also check in Services if there is any reference to Trend, and disable them.
and then you can delete all.

Sorry skizo, i thought i explain in my first post.

What it is when i first brought my external hdd and plug it in it gives you an icon in my computer,so what i had was
    Floppy (a)
    local disk(c)
    cd rw
Hd-hdu2(f) This is my external hdd. So when i first installed it i had an icon like the local disk(c) but now my HD-HDU2(external hdd icon)has been replaced by the trend micro icon(which is in the shape of a pill)I can't give you a screen shot as i'm not sure how do a screen shot of an icon.
    Hope this explain thing.

    @Skizo :

    For a quick icon fix
    REFRESH ICON CACHE
    install and run this http://www.gold-software.com/RefreshEm-review13707.htm
it will Refresh your Icon Cache which is why you are getting the wrong icon.
check that it has fixed the wrong icon thingy.
If it has, uninstall this program, you will barelly if ever use it again.
If it does not fix the icon problem, please say so.

The icon problem is the least of your problems.
I am more interested in fixing your TrendM problem.
This can be done mainly through the Hijackthis
once you post the log, I can see the problem.

Download and extract and run this - it is called hijackthislog
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadge...8baee6434cfc13

it analyzes all your running processes and services.
Make a copy of the log file and post it in the pm or this thread.
With that we can see if there are any TrendMicro files hanging you up.
    probably...

Did the renew icon cache work, yes or no?

    about the hijackthis
ok you have some other issues too but i will focus on the trendmicro thing.

    open hijackthis
just do a simple scan (no log)
    mark these items
O23 - Service: Trend Micro Real-time Service (Tmntsrv) - Unknown owner - F:\PROGRA~1\Tmntsrv.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Trend Micro Personal Firewall (TmPfw) - Unknown owner - F:\PROGRA~1\TmPfw.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Trend Micro Proxy Service (tmproxy) - Unknown owner - F:\PROGRA~1\tmproxy.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Trend Micro Central Control Component (PcCtlCom) - Unknown owner - F:\PROGRA~1\PcCtlCom.exe (file missing)

    then bottom left "fix checked"
    ok
    reboot
    --------------------------

do you have a registry cleaner?
if so use it after doing this action.

    ---------

after the reboot you should be able to install the antivirus's you refered to.

i have to go now, will finish sometime tomorrow.

Executables residing in the Program Files folder (and not a dedicated filder within it) should be considered suspicious at best.
Those that reside and are executed from inside either of the user's Application Data folders even more so.

I suspect a malware infection here as well as the trend problem.
KIS 6 should spot these once installed but you may want to try Spybot, AdAware or (better) XoftSpy. I always uninstall Spyware Doctor when I come across it on clients' machines.

There are also plenty of (file missing) entries in that log that should be cleaned. Although they're not doing any harm since the referenced files aren't there, getting rid of them helps clean up the log for diagnostic purposes.
