Help!

Hi, i've been having computer troubles lately,
I'm not sure if this is a virus or not.

Lately, when i log on to my computer.
I get an error message saying
"TCP/IP network transport not installed"
The title of the message was:
"Mobile Device Properties"

I have not been able to access the internet since i
first received this message. (I'm postingn this
from another computer)

Some details:
I'm running win 2000 pro
I have a firewall (norton)
I have a virus scanner (norton)
internet via LAN at my home. (cable)
I dont believe i have run any executable files that i have downloaded
recently
This error just suddenly appeared

Ways I have attempted to solve this:
-Restart (duh)
-Reinstall tcp/ip protocol for my network adapter
-Windows troubleshooter
-Scan for viruses with latest definitions from norton

Stuff I found out:
-My Ip address and subnet mask changed from what it usually is.
-I dont have a default gateway
-My Aston shell messed up b4 i had these problems.
-The error message wasn't found in the Windows help archive of error messages
-Each time i got this error, it wasnt recorded in Computer management> Event Viewer>System.

Anybody noe what's wrong? Can anybody help me?

yeah kicking used to work for my old shitmachine. then it started making loud noises, so i kicked it some more. eventually i got a new computer! off-topic, i know.

have you used an add removing program recently, adaware to be specific? this did this to my system. had to reformat the HD

hmmm i did hapen to use adaware recently.

However, I tried restoring all the things that it quarantined
then restarted. It didnt work

When i said i reinstalled tcp/ip protocol i meant:
Control panel > Net/dialup connections> properties of my network connection > uninstall tcp/ip protocol > restart> insntall tcp/ip protocol

I assume you used add/remove windows components in control panel - add/remove programs to uninstall, then reinstall networking?  If you haven't yet, run command prompt and c:>ipconfig /all  -    c:>ipconfig /flushdns  -    c:>ipconfig /renew  . Run a full checkdisk as well when ipconfig is done.  c:>chkdsk /x /f /r  or just  c:>chkdsk /r  to recover any bad sectors.

i got this error when trying to renew:

The following occurred when renewing adapter : An operaton was attempted on something that is not a socket.

What is this?
