mines 719kb/s on ~6mbit, so are you sure you dont just have the max speed your phone line can support up to 8mbit trevorob?
Im paying for up to 8mbit but can only get ~6 where i live.

like when you bought the connection, i'm sure they advertised it as a whatever Mbit connection...2mbit, 10mbit or 100mbit
