DVD RW Drive Problem

It seems to take forever to read CD Rom disks.

It sort of whirrs for ages before anything actually happens. I've used a lens cleaner on it, but without improvement.

Has anyone ever experienced this? Could it be a driver problem? I think the driver that it is using is a generic microsoft cdrom driver

Could be the media your using , a loose or failing IDE cable or the Drive is just going Kaput . Have you tried to update the firmware ? I had a like problem last week , mine would n't read some disks or would n't always open so for 36.00 bucks CND I just replaced it . I tried all of the above first as I'm cheap .


I'll never buy another Sony DVD -RW by the way , LG or LiteON .

Your very welcome, its nice to post a fix to a problem even tho It did n't work for me . One never knows tho do we .
