I use Virtual Dub (the Mod version is more versital) You simply add the first file and then append the second. V Dub hates vbr audio and for good reason. If you get the error for vbr you can try letting it fix the header but you will probably go out of sync. What I would do is to first fix each file by putting the video section in Direct Stream (which you should always do anyhow when your not converting) then convert the audio to pcm wav (Full Processing to large audio file) reload that and then convert the pcm to mp3 or ac3 using the same bitrate as the original (gspot can help there) after both files are fixed and play ok do your append.

If the audio is already cbr its a quick join and although it seems like alot of trouble to go from vbr to cbr audio just to join two files, you have to remember, the guy who converted these files never intended for someone to join or convert them to dvd, just to watch on the pc. That's why he used vbr audio so there was more room for video bitrate. I fix all avi files I download this way, for one, they will always convert with no sync errors and I can use ac3 audio for the greatest compatibiliy ("Virtual Dub Mod Aud-x Enabled" does ac3).

Once you get used to it you can fix any 700mb video with vbr audio in around 7min.. Thats a little time for a highly compatible file.

If both files are the same height, width, fps and stuff, then Virtual Dub FTW.
