Press F8 or F5 while it is booting up, and make it go into safemode. Then shutdown properly. Then try it going into windows normal again. If no luck go into safemode again and uninstall directx.

I tested that software out, CornerPocket.

I setup a new clean install of windows 98se. (Just for testing on a spare harddisk)

I installed Direct X 8.1 and the used the software to uninstall it. it took about 3 seconds and then a reboot. No more Direct X.

I then tried it with 9.0a, again same results. Magic! Presto! Poof... gone.

Thanks for the great tip. CornerPocket.

Why would you need to remove DirectX? I never knew it caused any conflicts.

When I reinstalled my OS and installed directX 9 it crashed my PC too. I formated again and went back to 8.1b works fine now.
