Thread: Iraqi Oil

  1. #1
Seems like everyones eyeing up the puddle of black stuff under Iraq. And the reparations and contracts that america's wanting seems vaguely dodgy.
    Check it out: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_ea...ast/2955789.stm

I wasn't too impressed, I never realised that "selling the oil for the benefit of iraqis" meant using it to pay american companies to clear up the damage.

What's that saying? 'beware of a greek bearing gifts' I think it's more
like 'beware of yanks doing you a favour'. I wonder if the UK will recoup
    anything.

    There is a saying....

"You cannot help those who don't want to help themselves"

The Iraqis have to help out too in order to fix their country and they certainly
have the means (Yes black stuff). If they didn't; that would be a different story.

I took a look at the article
The thing I come away with is the unbelievable staggering amout of money it costs!
It could have been done much cheaper!
The US spent that colossal amout of money as not to cause massive loss of civilian life.
I believe the Iraqi fedayeen and the other scum in there armed forces account for 90% of all civillian casualties.
    Probably higher!
20 billion in the first 4 weeks.
    Yeeeesh!

I went back to the article again to see if it had any info on how much the brits spent.
    Anyone know?
    I'm shure it's significant.

How would using those same profits to pay French/ Russian companies change the end result for the Iraqis?

In fact, given Russia's current state of economic and political instability wouldn't they be a far more precarious choice?
Unless you contracted with the Russian Mafia, of course. They seem to be thriving.

    Clocker-

He was, I believe, attempting to make that point which is so frequently made here; to wit: ".....".
