The Evil Empires (MPAA, RIAA, and anti-piracy agencies) have been known to trap people into downloading fake torrents. These fake torrents are hosted on fake trackers configured into collecting IP addresses of all the people who attempt to download the file. Many TorrentPortal members have come across such fake torrents and trackers. Some of the signs are downloads stopping at a specific percent completion and fake files in passworded RAR archives.

This thread will provide an updated list of the known fake trackers. If you find a torrent that is hosted by a tracker in this list, please report the torrent to a moderator for removal (please include the link to the torrent).

And why would they set up a fake tracker with fake torrents?

Legally it's entrapment. Also, since they are the copyright holders and they are the ones making the file available for download, they there by have given you permission to download the material making it perfectly legal.

I just don't get it....

I see, they are spoofing.
Never heard of them doing that before with torrents.
