I know most people don't class wwe as sport but these guy's are some of the fittest and most powerful on the planet and although there have been many great wrestlers, none match in power, speed and aggression more than 23 y/o Brock Lesnar B)
Here comes the pain! B)

Don't be ridiculous. Yes they are exceptional athletes however the bulk of them would last around 2 minutes in real fighting, UFC for example.

Lesnar may do OK as he was a wrestler of a decent standar. Kurt Angle would do better, he was a top class wrestler. Neither however would be capable of competing with the top men.If you like WWE you will remember Ken Shamrock appeared for a while. He was a real fighter, UFC heavyweight champion. [/b][/quote]
what about hulk hogan?

Phil Taylor - well agree he was the best, but i like to see a rematch between him an van barneveldt...

Greatest sportsman in his sport and probably ever... Michael Jordan...

soccer player - Johan Cruyff
Base ball - Joe Dimagio
Tennis - Jimmy Conners - Agassi is close on him though

what sports more...

You meen Mr.America
And Jpaul, I agree for the most part of what you said but Lesnar has done a bit of 'real' fighting in a japanese comp and crusified all who came against him, and there are'nt many people who can lift a man of 7'2" and 500lbs onto his shoulders and launch him into the air with such authority!
Poor old Angle knows all about it as Lesnar bust 2 of Angles vetibrea and fractured his spine and put him out of action since then in a hospital bed (unitetionly) at Wrestlemania 19!

Poor old Hulk Never could bloody wrestle, he's so stiff I think he overdosed on viagra!

So would I.

The Power would destroy him.

Cruyff - Superb player, but hardly the most dominant in his sport. Bit of low country bias there perhaps old bean.

Come on people, name the person who dominates their sport. Not just names, let's have reasons.

Taylor has been world champion 10 times.

If you're talking football!

Gerd Muller!
That guy seemed to be everywhere on the pitch at the same time!

Although I agree with Cruyff and best but you also have to cosider little Nobby Styles, one of the greatest markers ever! Sh1t to a blanket!

You are just having a laugh.

None of these compare with a man who has dominated his sport for over a decade.

Has been world champion 10 times and won the UK open just today.

How long were they at the top.

But you said, the best sportsman in his sport!
That's what we have put and this all comes down to opinion really!

Not beiing funny though, good topic!

I know a lot of people don't think it's a sport but surely Phil "The Power" Taylor must be considered the most dominant sportsman of all time.

The number of titles he has won and the length of time he has been at the top of his game.

Truly amazing.

BTW He plays darts, for the uninitiated.
Opening post old bean (or beans).

The title is, by nature a bit limited. First post in the thread really tends to outline the point. Though as you know better than I it tends not to stay that way long. (Note to self - don't overuse tend(s))

I wish to debate who the most dominant sportsman is overall. The subtext is really just to ensure that lmits are set. For example PT is not the most dominant sailor of all time.

However I would argue that he is the most dominant sportsman.
