Thread: Is downloading only a few MB of a torrent a hit and run?

  1. #1
Let's say you start a torrent, and there's suddenly some reason why you want to stop it. If you stop it then, is it a hit-and-run? Or do you have to continue downloading to completion to avoid being banned?

I think you won't be warned for hit and run if haven't completed the torrent. You are safe if you stop the torrent just after a little while it has started.

you should always seed back any completed parts of the torrent you are downloading.

Most sites wont warn or disable you for downloading part of a torrent.

However if you stop a torrent shortly after starting it all the time on a particular site... they may think you are trying to cheat the ratio system in 1 way or another and ban you for being a cheater.

So its a win/lose situation if you do this on every file.

It depends on the site obviously, ask them. It's a good reason to try to do most of your torrenting at sites that are lax on hit and runs however.

Anyone know if there's a way to seed back a partial file (not torrent) in utorrent?
