My current briadband connection has an upstream of 448 Kbps.
When i'm seeding torrents the maximum upload I can achieve is around is 50 kb/s.
Is this correct or should i be able to upload at higher speeds. If so what could be limiting me?
My settings in utorrent are set to not limit the upload speed.

Yep looks as if you are maxing out your up, so all is good M8.

Same upload speed here... 488 kbps or 61 kB/s.
I only let mine upload 31 kB/s max, so it won't affect my download/browsing speed...

You don't need to cap it at 31. You can cap it at 40 no problem
Unless you have unusual browsing habits off course

Yeah I watch a lot of streaming videos online, so anything 31 KB/s is my max...
But I use uTorrent's Scheduler and I let both my download and upload speeds to their maximums overnight and when I'm at work... One of the things I love about uTorrent...

You should cap it about 3-4 KB from your max, both upload and download (5 if you are seeding 100s of torrents)
Keeps everything running smoother
