id also recommend cubase sx if uve got windows xp( doesnt work on any other os).
but its probably worth u styarting off with fruity loops its quite a small download and its pretty easy to get ur head around to start off with!!

id also say buy a couple of computer music magazines from ur local newsagent, as u foten get free software and tutorials in there mate.
